Cuba is one of the top travel destinations in the world. Despite Fidel Castro relinquishing control of the top post, Cuba remains one of the most intriguing and enjoyable places to visit on the planet.

Some travel to Cuba to experience the communist regime for themselves, and see first-hand the political and social realities of Cuba. Many leave with radically changed perspectives.

Others travel to Cuba for the old colonial architecture and some of the Caribbean's best beaches. Yet others still visit for the music and arts, which are exceptional.

The thing all visitors will agree on, however, is that Cuba is home to some of world's friendliest and most open people. The Cuban people are what make any trip to Cuba unforgettable. They are trusting, warm, and love to have a good time - and to show their visitors one too! Every night will be filled with good music and delicious mojitos, and if you can resist being dragged onto the dance floor by the free-spirited Cubans, you are a stronger person than me!

Accommodation in Cuba

Hotels in Cuba are run by the government and are very expensive. The alternative is to stay at the houses of local people who are licensed to have travelers lodge with them. These are known as casa particulares, and you will generally be offered a separate room and sometimes bathroom, and will often eat and socialise with the host's family. The cost of one night in a home ranges from around US$20 to US$50, including breakfast and dinner. The price is for the room, and so traveling with a partner can make things much cheaper.

Other good news is that after you have found a casa particular in Havana for your arrival and stay in that city, getting recommendations for accommodation in other places is as easy as asking your hosts. They invariably know people in other towns, and will even help you make the booking!
